The Legend Begins
According to ancient lore, Chang'e was once a mortal woman named Chang Jiang, who lived during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE - 220 CE). She possessed extraordinary beauty and charm, which earned her many suitors. Among them was a humble scholar named Zhang Liangfu.
Their love blossomed quickly, but fate had other plans. A fierce battle broke out between two rival factions vying for power in their kingdom. In the chaos that ensued, Zhang Liangfu fell into a poisoned arrow pit while trying to save his beloved from harm.
In desperation to save him from certain death, Chang Jiang consumed an elixir meant for immortality – hoping it would grant her strength enough to rescue him. To her dismay and surprise, she found herself transformed into an immortal being as well.
The Heavenly Journey
