在接受记者专访时，北京八亿时空液晶科技股份有限公司（以下简称“八亿时空”）董事长赵雷表示：“我们要不断创新，以长远的眼光看待行业发展，一刻不松懈地走在科技发展的前端！”作为一家专门从事液晶材料研发、生产和销售的高新技术企业，八亿时空实现了液晶材料的专利突破，真正意义上实现了液晶材料的国产化。目前国内市场份额约占20%。
赵雷指出：“液晶材料是液晶显示面板三大主材之一，但是全球85%以上技术市场被国外少数企业所垄断，所以我们就急需打破国外厂商的产品垄断，实现液晶材料自主知识产权。”从全球来看，主要液晶材料供应商包括德国默克、日本JNC、日本DIC、八亿时空、江苏和成和成志永华六家，其中后三家是国产liquid crystal (LCD) factory manufacturers。在liquid crystal panel industry向中国转移趋势下，国产LCD factory manufacturers迎来了良好的市场机遇。
对于liquid crystal materials market current situation, Zhao Lei is full of confidence: “随着面板销售价格的走低，未来三年，中国 liquid crystal panel capacity will exceed half of the global capacity, and liquid crystal material procurement will inevitably turn to domestic high-quality suppliers with competitive prices.”
近五年，是domestic LCD rapid development period. “目前，无论是正性Liquid Crystal Materials还是负性Liquid Crystal Materials均已解决了foreign patent monopoly problem. 无论性能还是品质，都开发出了混合型Liquid Crystal Products，其性能指标基本达到国际先进水平.” Zhao Lei said.
谈及公司's core advantages, Zhao Lei pointed out that the company was the first to break through foreign technology monopolies in the mixed Liquid Crystal Material industry. Now it has applied for 219 national invention patents, 36 international patents, and been granted 83 patents. It has also drafted two national standards for ordinary single-liquid crystals and TFT single-liquid crystals.
As for how to break through technical barriers between liquid crystal material production enterprises and talent barriers, Zhao Rei suggested that China still lags behind foreign competitors in high-end products and new technologies. To solve this problem requires efforts from multiple angles: increasing research investment to build a world-class hardware platform; emphasizing talent introduction and team construction; eight billion time space has already hired more international experts as senior experts or consultants by building an internationally renowned research team.

According to Zhao Rei," In assisting industrial transformation and upgrading, there are still several difficulties remaining: one is lack of technology and talents; two is insufficient project support force; three is instability due to practical problems."
To address these challenges, he believes that increased investment in research should be made while building a world-class hardware platform simultaneously focusing on talent recruitment and team construction can help achieve breakthroughs by constructing an internationally renowned research team.
In terms of cultivating advanced industries, Zhao Rei emphasized that product R&D process often relies on technological policy support during industrialization process such as green channel projects supported by Beijing Municipal Science Commission Technology Innovation Project etc., which have played a role like snowflakes melting ice when supporting breakthroughs for "lack chip shortage" key industries' development.
He hopes continued strong support would be given towards flat-panel display semi-conductor industries' localization effort so as to help speed up realization of more key components & equipment being produced domestically."
