Meet the Man Who Changed the Course of History: My Introduction to Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci, a name that echoes through time and space, is a man who has left an indelible mark on human history. As I delve into his life and works, I am struck by the sheer breadth of his talents - he was not only a painter but also an inventor, engineer, anatomist, mathematician, and scientist.

Born in 1452 in Vinci, Italy, Leonardo's early life laid the foundation for his future success. He was apprenticed to artist Andrea del Verrocchio at just 14 years old where he honed his skills as a painter and sculptor. It wasn't long before he established himself as an independent artist with commissions from wealthy patrons.

But it's not just his art that makes him so remarkable; it's also his insatiable curiosity about the world around him. His notebooks are filled with sketches of machines that would later become prototypes for modern inventions like airplanes and submarines. He studied human anatomy through detailed drawings of corpses - something unheard of during that era.

One of Leonardo's most famous works is undoubtedly "The Last Supper," painted on dry wall in the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie church in Milan between 1495-1498. This masterpiece depicts Jesus Christ sharing one final meal with twelve apostles before he betrayed them (according to Christian belief).

His most famous painting however might be "Mona Lisa" created sometime between 1503-1506 when Leonardo lived in Florence under French patronage at Château Clos Lucé near Amboise (a gift from Francis I). Her enigmatic smile continues to captivate audiences worldwide.

Despite all these incredible accomplishments during his lifetime (he died at age 67), it wasn't until centuries after that people began fully appreciating how far ahead of their time were some aspects such as flight designs or understanding water currents which made possible better ship navigation systems even back then!

Today we can still see how much impact this Renaissance genius had upon us today whether you're gazing up at those soaring birds flying high above or enjoying your daily commute via train while thinking about how trains revolutionized travel since they first appeared more than two millennia ago! So let us remember always give thanks for our ancestors who paved way towards progress & innovation!
