Early Life and Education
Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452, in the small village of Vinci in the Tuscany region of Italy. His father, Ser Piero da Vinci, was a notary who later became a prosperous landowner; his mother, Caterina Buti, was a peasant woman. Da Vinci's early life was marked by curiosity and creativity. He showed an interest in art from an early age and began his artistic training at the workshop of artist Andrea del Verrocchio in Florence when he was just 14 years old.
Artistic Career
Da Vinci's artistic career spanned over six decades during which he created some of the most iconic works of Renaissance art including "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Supper." His innovative techniques included sfumato (the blending of colors to create depth) and chiaroscuro (the use of light and dark to create volume). Da Vinci's paintings are characterized by their incredible attention to detail and realism.
Scientific Contributions
In addition to his artistic talents, Leonardo da Vinci made significant contributions to various scientific fields such as anatomy, physics, mathematics, engineering, geology and astronomy. He is known for his detailed drawings that reveal his understanding of human anatomy far ahead of its time. Da Vinci also studied flight extensively through experiments with gliders designed based on bird wings.
Engineering Inventions
Da Vinci conceptualized many inventions before they were actually built centuries later due to technological limitations at that time period including flying machines like ornithopters or flapping-wing aircrafts; armored vehicles called tanks; submarines or underwater vessels propelled by hand cranks or paddles; designs for water pumps that could lift water high into buildings using pulleys or winches powered by men turning handles around corners
