George Washington, the first president of the United States, was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia. His father, Augustine Washington, was a justice of the peace and owned several plantations. After serving two terms as president (1789-1797) due to term limits established by himself within the Constitution that he helped draft at Philadelphia's Constitutional Convention (1787), George Washington returned home to Mount Vernon where he continued farming until his death on December 14th, 1799.
