在接受新华网记者专访时，我，赵雷，北京八亿时空液晶科技股份有限公司（以下简称“八亿时空”）的董事长，表示我们将不断创新，以长远的眼光看待行业发展，一刻不松懈地走在科技发展的前端。作为一家专门从事液晶材料研发、生产和销售的高新技术企业，我们实现了液晶材料的专利突破，真正意义上实现了液晶材料的国产化，现在国内市场份额约占20%。
赵雷说：“液晶材料是液晶显示面板三大主材之一，但是全球85%以上技术市场被国外少数企业所垄断，所以我们就急需打破国外厂商的产品垄断，实现液晶材料自主知识产权。”
从全球来看，主要液晶材料供应商包括德国默克、日本JNC、日本DIC、八亿时空、江苏和成和成志永华六家，其中后三家是国产liquid crystal (LCD) factory manufacturers。在liquid crystal panel industry towards China transfer trend, domestic liquid crystal manufacturers have been presented with a good market opportunity.
对于liquid crystal materials' current market situation, Zhao Lei expresses confidence: “With the decrease of panel sales prices, in the future three years, China's liquid crystal panel production capacity will exceed half of the global total capacity. Liquid crystal material procurement must turn to quality and price competitive domestic manufacturers.”
The past five years have been a period of rapid development for domestic LCD. Currently, whether it is positive or negative LCD materials has solved foreign patent monopoly issues. The performance and quality of mixed LCD products developed by us are basically at an international advanced level.
Zhao Lei also emphasizes that our company has broken through foreign technical monopolies and become one of the pioneers in the mixed material industry. We have applied for 219 national invention patents, 36 international patents, and 83 authorized patents. Additionally, we have drafted two national standards - "General Specifications for Ordinary Single-Molecule Liquid Crystals" and "TFT Single-Molecule Liquid Crystal Specifications", with one already officially promulgated.
To break through technical barriers between liquid crystal material producers and talents? Zhao Lei believes that there is still a certain gap between Chinese enterprises like ours and their foreign counterparts in high-end products fields, especially in new products and technologies where we are still following up on others' pace. To solve this problem requires efforts from multiple angles: increasing research investment to build first-class hardware platforms; focusing on talent recruitment as well as team building; eight billion time space has begun hiring more international experts as senior advisors or consultants to establish an internationally-oriented R&D team thereby achieving overtaking while following up on international advanced levels step by step.
Eight Billion Time Space aims to be a century-old enterprise specializing in fine materials development within tablet industries continuously evolving into more sophisticated ones. In assisting industrial transformation upgrades currently existing difficulties include:

3rdly unstable personnel due to practical challenges
Zhao Lei suggests that governments should provide support regarding land use for industries (industrial land), construction costs related to new research & development facilities plus ancillary equipment needed for production etc., which would help overcome these difficulties mentioned above.
In nurturing high-tech industries’ growth he stressed that product R&D along with its industrialization process often depends upon supportive policies from governments such as Beijing Municipal Commission’s green channel projects supporting innovation projects etc., helping push forward breakthroughs like those needed against 'lack-of-chips-and-lack-of-displays'. He hopes further investments will be made into fostering semiconductor-based display screen manufacturing processes making key components domestically produced faster than ever before saying “just like companies' missions – what nations need is exactly what companies can do!”
