Early Life and Tragedy
Born on July 6, 1907, in Coyoacán, Mexico City, Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist known for her self-portraits that often depicted her physical and emotional suffering. Her life was marked by numerous health issues and personal tragedies that she used as inspiration for her artwork.
The Bus Accident
At the age of 18, Frida suffered a devastating bus accident while commuting to school. The collision left her with multiple injuries including a broken spine, pelvis shattered into 33 pieces, and several other fractures. This incident would have long-lasting effects on both her physical health and artistic career.
Marriage to Diego Rivera
In 1929 Frida married muralist Diego Rivera who was twice divorced at the time. Their marriage was marked by infidelity but also produced two children together. They had an intense relationship filled with passion but also disagreements over politics.
Artistic Career
Despite enduring immense pain from chronic back problems due to the bus accident, Frida continued creating art throughout her life. She became famous for painting self-portraits which often portrayed herself wearing traditional Tehuana clothing amidst various symbols of Mexican culture.
She joined the Mexican Communist Party during World War II which influenced many of her artworks depicting themes such as social justice and revolution against imperialism.
Exhibitions Abroad
In addition to showcasing local artists' works in Mexico City museums like Palacio de Bellas Artes where she had one-woman exhibitions in both 1953-1954 (her first) and again posthumously in '54-'55 after dying at just fifty-seven years old; she participated internationally too - exhibiting paintings at Parisian galleries like Galerie Renou & Colle (1940) as well as participating within international expositions organized by UNESCO or held overseas amongst others places across Europe & America until death came knocking when it did so abruptly on September twenty-fifth nineteen forty-five night time; this abrupt end took place just hours before dawn broke over San Francisco Bay Area region around twelve am local time; these were all major milestones within what can be considered "artistic journey" though not complete nor perfect yet still very significant event happening within history books concerning arts world especially since we are discussing here about how people perceive themselves through their own eyes even when they cannot see anymore because blindness is something else entirely different story altogether though related somewhat more than one might think initially upon initial glance!
